NCMS Annual Meeting and House of Delegates to Convene October 25-26

The North Carolina Medical Society (NCMS) Annual Meeting and House of Delegates will take place next weekend, October 25-26, 2013 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center in downtown Raleigh. If you have not yet registered for this event, you may get more information on the meeting at www.ncmedsoc.org/annualmeeting. Pre-registration for this event has now closed, but you may register on-site at the Marriott (500 Fayetteville Street, Raleigh, NC) starting Friday, October 25 at 9:30am.

This year, the NCMS is collaborating with the NC Medical Board and the Boston University School of Medicine and other state and national partners to offer the CME session SCOPE of Pain: Safe and Competent Opioid Prescribing Education. NCMS Annual Meeting attendees are welcome to sign up for this event, as are nurse practitioners, pharmacists, dentists, optometrists, and podiatrists.

Running concurrently with the SCOPE of Pain CME session is the Educational Open House, geared toward medical students, physicians just starting in their career and interested practice staff. Attendees are welcome to come and go as they please, taking in only the sessions that are of interest.

The House of Delegates will be taking a look at the future of health care, as the NCMS will provide a comprehensive update on the Affordable Care Act (ACA) during the House of Delegates.

There will be networking and social opportunities at the NCMS Section Luncheon open to all members of the Student, Resident, PA, IMG, Women in Medicine, and Young Physician sections; and with the Women in Medicine Section Meeting and Social.

Don’t miss the chance to review the latest clinical research and clinical case reports presented during the first annual Poster Session, sponsored by the Durham-Orange Medical Society, for medical students/residents.

The NCMS Political Action Committee (PAC) Breakfast on Saturday, October 26 will feature State Representative Nelson Dollar, who will speak on political advocacy, healthcare-related legislation and the budget.

There are also several events occurring in the Triangle area the weekend of the Annual Meeting, including the 29th Annual A Shopping SPREE! sponsored by the Junior League of Raleigh, which will take place next door to the Marriott City Center at the Raleigh Convention Center.
